Purpose

The Urban Health Innovation Club focuses primarily to address the vast amounts of health inequities within Jamaica, Queens by identifying local health challenges, encouraging the implementation of solutions, and enabling the youth to become advocates within their communities. Through a wide range of projects, we aim to raise awareness for the large communities within Jamaica with the support of the students at Thomas A. Edison CTE High School.

What We Focus On

Three areas guide our work

01 — Health Equity

Explore disparities in health and access to resources, and consider the factors that contribute to these differences within communities.

02 — Community Health

Examine local health challenges and the conditions that influence the wellbeing of communities.

03 — Youth Advocacy

Encourage students to become informed about health issues and use their knowledge to advocate within their communities.

NewYork-Presbyterian Queens Partnership

Through our partnership with NewYork-Presbyterian Queens, UHI helps high school students gain firsthand exposure to healthcare by providing opportunities to volunteer in a hospital setting and learn from medical professionals.
